!(http://www.goodreturns.co.nz/pics/wayneoliver.jpg)Hamilton mortgage broker Wayne Oliver was named Mortgage Broker of the Year at the Mortgage Brokers’ Association annual conference on Friday.
Oliver, who owns Oliver Financial Services, was selected ahead of 35 other nominations in the inaugural awards.
Oliver has been a mortgage broker since 1996. Before setting up his own business he held senior positions in the financial services sector, including Waikato regional manager for Countrywide Bank.
While at the bank he became a successful mobile mortgage manager. That experience, he says, helped him become a successful mortgage broker.
His lending experience allows him to cover most facets of commercial and residential broking.
The runners-up in the Awards were Cherie MacFadyen of Mortgage Planners, and Christine Lockie of Loan Plan.
Other Awards handed out at the conference were Personality of the Year, which was given to Gary Burton of Queenstown mortgage broker Charlie Reid & Associates Ltd and two special awards for contribution to the industry.
These two special awards went to MBA president Rob Tucker and his deputy Brian Berry.
Tucker and Berry have been instrumental in establishing the association that has more than 300 brokers representing about 60% of the industry.
Tucker, a director of Auckland-based National Mortgage, has been president of the association since its formation in 1997 and was relected to the position on Friday.
Berry, a director and part-owner of Tauranga-based Mortgage Works, was a founder member of the association and has served on the committee since 1997.
His contributions have included designing the industry-standard loan application form, over-seeing the development of the association website, editing a newsletter, and reviewing the members’ accreditation course.
